The Old Chapel - Brocante's Characterful New Shop

You may have heard rumours earlier in the year that we were opening a new shop in the bustling village of Charlestown. Yes its true! We opened our fabulous new shop in late December. Whilst there are still things to finish off to make it perfect, we wanted to get the doors open to you all as quickly as we could.

Can you feel Kieron’s excitement on his first day working in the new shop?

Kieron and David were eager to open in Charlestown, a place that they both love visiting to eat out and to enjoy the atmosphere in all seasons. Alongside some other lovely shops in the village, the addition of a Brocante continues to make for a great shopping, exploring and eating day out. If the draw of opening in the village wasn’t enough, the opportunity to have a shop in a disused Old Chapel was a no - brainer. The original features of the grade II listed building such as the original, impressively decorated organ pipes hanging on the wall, the woodwork carving comprising the lectern, complemented by the old wooden flooring, which has surely got some stories to tell, create a wonderful opportunity to showcase our Brocante products in a way we haven’t done before.

The images above show the views a very short stroll down the hill from our shop. The historic port of Charlestown, famed for its use as the setting in many famous films and tv programmes such as Poldark and Pirates of the Carribean . As you can see, the views are spectacular, whether for the atmosphere during an impressive storm, or the serenity on a calm autumn afternoon.

In all of our Brocante shops, the products work with the buildings and surroundings. In Fowey for example, one of our shops is in the old Lloyds Bank building, this means lovely high ceilings and history which many local customers remember, we have had customers come in and tell stories about their working lives in the very same shop, when it was a bank. Each building tells a story, and works with the products to show them off in its own special way, another example being part of the original Fowey shop used to be a butchers, the old butchers hooks still hanging from the ceiling are an excellent way of showing off our favourite hanging homewares, and are also a tie into the building and its history. Similarly in Mevagissey, the shop also used to be the local butchers, you will spot the original marble slabs in the window beds if you are eagle eyed. We look forward to hearing more stories from locals about their memories in the Old Chapel in Charlestown. We feel proud to be able to breathe a little (or a lot) of life back into this previously derelict building.
