Brocante's Winners

At the end of March we shared the news that we had been nominated for some awards at the Greats Gift Retailer Awards. How time flies, we are well into May already. We have recently learned that our shops did indeed win the ‘Best Specialist Multiple Retailer’ category, how exciting! If you missed our last blog explaining the Greats awards, check it out here. If not, read on to hear what it was like to attend, as well as learning about two of Brocante’s very own gig rowing World Champions, beware as you walk into Brocante, there are winners everywhere!

Kieron and David were delighted to accept the award of ‘Best Specialist Multiple Retailer of Gifts 2022’. This award recognises the attention to detail of Kieron, David and all of the Brocante staff, as well as the enthusiasm and eagerness to provide a positive Brocante experience for every customer. This is of course in addition to Kieron’s impeccable shopping skills, which source beautiful, unique stock, which many of the staff themselves cannot resist buying, and who we refer to as ‘storm Katy’ who is a complete whirlwind and turns jumbled piles of stock into stunning shop and window displays. So thank you to all of the Brocante staff for going the extra mile. Of course this also would not have happened without our wonderful customers, who support us year round, and always make the shops an enjoyable and fun place to be.

Pictured above is Brocante’s James and Maria, both part of Fowey Ladies A crew who won the World Pilot Gig Championships on the Isles of Scilly a month ago. With James coxing, the six rowers won every race across the weekend, ending in some table dancing celebrations on the Sunday night… How amazing was the window drawing that Katy and Kieron did whilst they were away, what a welcome to come home to! Hiding behind James is a drawing of the winning boat, named ‘Q’, to make sure that everybody passing knew what had happened. The whole town is celebrating, it is the first time that Fowey Gig Club has won this event since 1996.

Games faces on for the row out to the start line of the final.

We were very lucky to be featured in an article by Progressive Gift and Home to celebrate the success, read more here. The same magazine also featured an article outlining all of the greats awards winners, check it out here.

The huge disappointment from the weekend of rowing however, was that when on the podium collecting their medals, Maria could not open the champagne cork. Maria we are not angry, just disappointed.

Picture evidence of Maria struggling to open the champagne, it went on like this for a while!

Hopefully you have enjoyed hearing about the successes and awards of all of our shops, as well as that of a couple of our staff. We are planning to introduce some more of our amazing staff to you in our blog posts soon, so watch this space!
